Bipan Chandra: Pioneering People's Oral History

Prof. Mridula Mukherjee is speaking on Prof. Bipan Chandra's pioneer oral history project in which Prof. Chandra along with his students interviewed more than 1,500 freedom fighters across the country. These engagements of Prof. Chandra with eyewitnesses of the freedom struggle hugely changed his understanding of India's anti-imperialist struggle. His most popular book, India's Struggle for Independence, perhaps the all-time best-seller in Indian academics, is heavily based upon these interviews. This lecture of Prof. Mukherjee is a part of a whole day function called Jashn-e-Azaadi, organized in  memory of Prof Bipan Chandra on 28th March, 2016 at JNU Convention Centre.
